Karen Pinegar, RDH
I graduated from the School of Hygiene at Old Dominion University, Magna Cum Laude, in May 1981. Having been a hygienist for 37 years, I have spent 17 of those years in a periodontal practice. I am very particular about where I work and feel honored to work with Dr. Rutledge and his wonderful team. I find the team to possess very high levels of competency, integrity, and compassion. I realize it is hard to switch from one health professional to another, but I promise I will take very good care of you. I am patient and easy to talk to and I welcome any questions you have for me.
My passion in life is philanthropy. I have chosen to use my dental skills and experience to not only benefit those in our community but in 3rd world regions. I have put together and been involved in a number of dental mission trips to Thailand, Guatemala, Jamaica, Indonesia and Mexico. I also work heavily with the homeless in our area, including helping them with their dental needs. Dental hygiene is not just a job to me but a means by which I can make a difference in the lives of those I come in contact with.
I was born and raised in Chesapeake, Virginia. My husband, Ed, and I have 4 children. Our oldest, Chip, lives and works outside of Raleigh, NC. He and his wife have blessed us with 3 wonderful grandsons. Our son, Kyle, graduated from NC State in 2014 and earned a degree in Statistics and a degree in Business. He works as a Statistician in Raleigh, NC. Amy, our only daughter, graduated from Abilene Christian University in Abilene, Texas in May 2016. She received her BS in Nursing and works with high risk pregnancies at UNC hospital in North Carolina. She and her husband, Ben, were married in October 2017. Our youngest child, Adam, is a senior at James Madison University and is studying Engineering and Physics.
I am a very family oriented person. Nothing thrills me more than having my children or grandchildren around. Our hobbies include swimming, boating, riding jet skis, and snow skiing. We ride our bikes often and like to go camping. But I have been told that my version of camping in a motor home with AC is not really camping. We have 2 cats, Sky and Aslan, and one lab, Holly. They are definitely an extension of our family.

Hailey Chohany, RDH
Hailey graduated from Thomas Nelson’s dental hygiene program in 2016, and is excited to obtain her Bachelor’s degree from James Madison University in May 2020. She enjoys continuing her education so that she can stay on top of the latest information in regards to dental hygiene.
Born and raised in Williamsburg, Virginia, Hailey grew up on the James River, so moving to Virginia Beach was a natural choice for her. She loves being on the water (of course), painting, sports, live music, and traveling. She is also very devoted to her family, friends, and pets, spending as much time with them as she can.
Committed to giving patients the very best dental experience, Hailey loves to create an environment where patients feel relaxed in the dental chair. Educating patients and making them feel comfortable enough to ask questions or express what they want is very important to her.
For Hailey, dental hygiene is more than just caring for patient’s oral health, it’s also about listening to patient’s needs, sharing collaborative conversations, and building lasting relationships!
Hailey is extremely excited to join Dr. Rutledge’s team and is honored to make a genuine connection with you soon!
